Hours of Operation

Tropical Wings is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day, including Sundays and holidays, 365 days a year.

In general the best times to view butterflies are between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m, because butterflies require the sun's heat to maintain their metabolism at an active level. On very hot days, typical in May, the butterflies are more active in mornings and late afternoons, and on very cloudy or rainy days, they roost on twigs or leaves and do not fly much.

Fortunately, other activities offered at Tropical Wings can be enjoyed regardless of the weather. And should a sudden cloud burst occur, you can take a break from the outdoors by investigating the interpretive center's exhibits, watching a nature video, getting a snack, or browsing in the gift shop.

Admission Fees

Admission fees are $5.00 Bz. ($2.50US) for adults; children 4 to 12 years old are admitted for half-price, and children under 4 are admitted free.

Because an important part of Tropical Wing's mission is to help everyone learn more about biology and tropical ecology, Belizean school groups are admitted free with prior arrangement.

Butterfly houses in Belize are for ecotourists, but butterflies are insects, not hummingbirds or other tropical birds. Belize has several butterfly houses, but no nature centers or interpretive centers except tropical wings, which is geared toward ecotourists in the Cayo District. Maya ruins, butterflies, tourists, animals, birds, flowers, and nature trails combine for adventure travel in Belize. Our medicinal garden, hummingbirds, butterfly farm, butterfly house, nature trails, Maya ruins, and budget lodging make this the best nature center in Belize. And we're close to Xunantunich and Tikal, as well as susasusa and susasusa2.
